Food for thought........

So many religions and so many beliefs.... I really don't know how many times I have followed certain rituals only to satisfy someone or to keep their belief system alive.. I DO believe in GOD.. But that doesn't mean, I would believe in all the rituals which human beings have created.

I don't think I need to follow any ritual only because I was asked to, or because our ancestors have mentioned that in our holy books. I have read Bhagvadgita, Ramayana, and Mahabharata.. I really think they have a lot to say which makes sense even in today's world. But that doesn't mean, I byheart shlokas and try and recite them without understanding. I would prefer to pray and say what I want to say to LORD in the language I prefer. After all, GOD would understand whatever I want to say in whichever language I say it. How does it matter in which language I say it? Why is there so much stress on knowing shlokas? If you have been to a temple, you would be given a set of instructions on what to do and what not to do, I really have never understood them and I am sure, even the people who are giving the instructions would not know why they are doing it.

Its not that I am against Hinduism, for that matter, even other religions have a set of things to do and not to do. Though I have heard about that from my friends, I don't want to go into details of all that. But as a matter of fact we all are designed from our childhood to believe certain things in life. It begins from what is right and what is wrong and based on these we set up our values. Do we ever think why we are doing certain activities? Most of the times, it because of the habit. The individuality is hardly there in this world of 'being with the soceity'. We all are different human beings, but we all follow the soceity, irrespective of the fact that we want to or not. And the ironic thing is that 'we are the soceity'.. We always want to inscribe our thought process on someone else... Well that's the way we are.. and that's the way its going to be..

Good Ideology. However, the fact remains that Ramayan, Mahabharath ,Gita, Khuraan, Bible, Guru Granth...... are Holy. Each and every line abt it makes sense. Now talking abt the fact that you don't want to do all that is written is Acceptable. Coz you have the freedom to define the way you worship God and aslong as u r trying to do good for the people around you, you may actually be least bothered abt the Rule Book.

Yes, donot do it as a formality. But y not try to Question WHY we are supposed to do this?? If you can find a person who can make u understand things and only if you feel that the meaning makes sense in today's world then there should be no issues for this generation to follow the Holy Books as long as they get an answer to all their "Y"s.

Dasharatha sent his sons away for education to some kuteer in some forest to some Great Rishi. If you try to follow the same by trying to find some kuteer, in some forest, to send your children to some Great Sadhu/Rishi then some Valmiki will definetly write atleast a Blog abt that (If not Ramayan).

So, its very much important for us to read and know about our religion and try to adapt it as per today's need.

I totallay agree with ur line of thought. "DONT JUST BLINDLY FOLLOW ANYTHING". DO IT, IF YOU KNOW THE MEANING AND TRY TO SHARE THE SAME WITH THE PPL WHO R INCLINED TO KNOW (like you).

Cheers & keep writing!!

I never knew have such wonderful thoughts..... I am really impressed!!!!

One thing i want to add is anything you do has to be in awareness. Awareness means when you are not part of you thought when you can just be a witness to what your mind is thinking. Thats what is only required mam. But i am still suprised reading to all the things you have written...

Thank you Sukhdev for the comment.. I completely agree that we should adapt it as per today's need. I would like to add to that is that most of the 'rituals' or 'practices' as you might call it were actually created for a purpose. For example, my granny says 'you should not cut nails in the night' Now if I ask her the reason, she only says that 'its bad and its not good for you or family'. Now I would say in olden days, there was no light anywhere, so this thought would have made a lot of sense back then as to what if the nails poked someone or it fell into the food.. But in today's world, we need to be smart enough to know what would be acceptable in today's scenario and what needs to be followed and what need not.. Well again this is completely my perspective and I am quite possesive about it.. so I don't expect anyone to accept it as well.. ;-)
